Navigating our changing workplace: No more managers
In the future managers may not exist. They'll be replaced by 'team leaders' who need new tools and possibly a GPS.
If you were going to design a business application for the new project universe, where would you start?
According to human capital consultant Laura Schroeder, the new reality for many companies is "a global, virtual, fluid, contingent, self-managing, project-oriented workforce in a constantly changing business climate." Say what?
Future "managers" in many organizations may be team and project leaders without a manager's title. Employees and contractors may be anywhere and everywhere. Peer reviews and feedback may replace annual assessments.
New leaders will need very different collaboration and decision-making tools. Maybe they should come with a GPS?
