Are your gadgets ruining your work mojo?
Is your office already inundated with electronics and personal gadgets? Here are some good tips for workplace technology.
The amount of gadgets in today’s workplace can be overwhelming and distracting. While many of these tools do help us accomplish tasks more efficiently, the question remains whether or not they are actually slowing down productivity levels.
Consider this: “Studies show that it takes you eight minutes to recover from every interruption you have at work," writes USNews.com blogger Lindsay Olson. "So if your mother texts you five times in an hour, it could take you 40 minutes (plus text time) to get back on track. Most employers aren't willing to pay for those wasted minutes.”
How can we deal? Olson suggests using the vibrate function on your phone, keeping the volume low on personal calls, and being courteous during meetings (read: no texting).
