Irritability can have a bazillion causes.
Enduring a child’s temper tantrum at breakfast. Getting cut off in traffic on the way to work. Catching hell from an irate customer.
But a staff member in a foul mood can lower the temperature of the whole office.
Maintaining self-control in frustrating situations actually “drains your cognitive resources” and makes you more prone toward “anger, irritability, and cynicism.” That’s according to a recent post at
LifeHacker.com.
These emotions “cause your blood pressure to fluctuate and can increase your level of the stress hormone cortisol,” which augments that “flustered” feeling. You also develop “tunnel vision,” where you are less able to see options and more likely to make poor decisions.
Assuming depression is not at play, there are some easy remedies for bad moods. Among them: listen to music and exercise.
